LV= County Championship - Week 1

The first week of County Championship games have been very interesting with Division One teams, Nottinghamshire, Surrey and Somerset all winning and Derbyshire winning in Division Two. There were many stand out performances where they will be highlighted below.

At the County Ground in Derby, Derbyshire thrashed Northamptonshire by a huge 202 runs. Big performances were Martin Guptill who hit a massive 137 and David Wainwright, who switched from Yorkshire this year, took 6-33. 

At the Bridge, 20 wickets fell in just the first day. Notts were all-out for just 118 in the first innings with Richard Jones taking 6-32. Notts ended as the winners of this game winning by 92 runs.

At Taunton, Vernon Philander tore the Middlesex batting line in the first innings and ended up with figures of 5-43 and 2-38. Crompton, the former Middlesex player, played a slow and steady making one run short away from 100 alongside Kieswetter who made 83.

Surrey, down at the oval won their first game on their return to Division One. Tom Maynard stayed not out on 83 with Amjad Khan taking 5. Luke Wells ton wasn't enough to stop paceman, Lewis, taking his 800th First-Class wicket. 







In Leeds, Kent had many big contributions, Coles (103 no) and Key (97). In reply, Bairstow hit an hundred following his selection in England Performance Squad
